2007 GBAA Safety Day

GBAA would like to thank everyone who attended this year's Safety Day. This was our second year hosting this event and your participation and feedback continue to make it better and better.

This year's event had a number of great speakers covering a number of important topics. Below you can see a summary of the day's event. And for those who could not attend, the speaker's materials are available for download!

"General Baseline Safety Concepts " presented by Bob Agostino, Bombardier
When it comes to safety seminars, one man needs little introduction. Bob Agostino is the founder and moderator of Bombardier's Safety Standdown. Bob brought his passion for safety to GBAA's audience to set the table for the entire day.

"Simulator-Based Training" presented by CAE Simuflite & FlightSafety
Simulator based training is a vital component to a safety program. How do you get the most out of your training? What are some of the best practices? A panel discussion by two leading simulator training companies told us their thoughts.

"Safety Management " presented by Jose Munoz, SH&E
Jose brings a wealth of facility and maintenance safety knowledge to the program. His many years of hands-on experience and safety audits give a strong background on the important topic. Jose shared his thoughts on maintenance and facility safety as it relates to OSHA, IS-BAO and Best Practices.

"Safety Through Technology" presented by Gary Bosemer, Landmark Aviation
Technology is becoming more prevalent in today's aviation departments. In the air and on the ground, these technologies are narrowing the gap on safety. Gary Bosemer has many years of experience helpig aviation departments implement technology. He discussed the pros, cons, and other considerations as technologies are made available to operators.

"Human Factors & First Aid" presented by Linda Augustine, MedAire
The research and development of human factors training has made a huge impact within aviation over the years. Linda took this critical topic and discuss its impact in all arena of the aviation department including flight, maintenance and passengers.

"Developing an Effective Safety Program" - A Panel Discussion
So how does all of this come together? How do you create a safety program? Where do you start? What's important to have? What if you have limited resources? How do you get buy-in within the department and downtown? A panel discussion of local operators who have "been there, done that" shared their stories and suggestions to create an effective safety program. They also shared examples of various safety form used in their programs:

- Sample Safety Risk Profile Form
- Sample Incident Report
