Various Professional Sessions

For 2008, GBAA will continue to remain focused on creating additional value for its members. This year, GBAA plans to host a series of events focused on specific disciplines within business aviation. We have already hosted two events regarding EFBs and Aircraft Documentation. Even if you are not working in a specific area, we encourage everyone to attend as there will be something for everyone. The remaining 2008 events are listed below.

GBAA would like to welcome you to attend the 2008 Safety Day! GBAA is pleased to offer this great event for the third year in a row. Join us and your colleagues on Wednesday, August 27 to discuss important safety topics including:

08:00   Registration Open/Breakfast

08:30   Introduction/Session Begins – Dave Small, GBAA

08:45   Leadership & Management in Corporate Aviation – JD McHenry, Global Jet Services

JD McHenry is a seasoned speaker on safety.  His knowledge of SMS, IS-BAO and all professional disciplines make him a great selection to start Safety Day.  JD will lay the foundation by speaking about the important task of managing and leading safety.

10:15   The Role of the Scheduler/Dispatcher in Safety Management – Fred Towers, Universal Aviation

Fred Towers is no stranger to speaking at industry events.  One of the icons of NBAA’s Schedulers and Dispatchers Committee, Fred will talk about the critical role that the S/D plays in assuring and managing safety on each trip and throughout the operation.

11:15   Landing Distance Calculations & Runway Overruns – Bob Maynard, FAA

Bob is the author of Advisory Circular 91-79 which highlights the common mistakes and issues surrounding runway overruns.  Bob’s presentation provides excellent discussion and examples that every operator and pilot should consider.

13:00   Hangar Safety – Billy White, MedAire

The importance of hangar safety is critical, yet it is often assumed.  From OSHA requirements to Best Practices, Billy White will discuss the various elements to make your hangar safe for your employees, passengers, and visitors.

14:00   Energy Break

14:30   Runway Incursions – Wes Timmons, FAA

The FAA’s renewed focus in addressing runway incursions is the topic of this informative and interactive topic.  Wes Timmons brings some wonderful and gut-wrenching examples of runway incursions.  The presentation will allow the attendees to discuss the common pitfalls and mistakes as well as learn about current and upcoming technologies and procedures to assure runway safety.

15:30   Distraction Management – Sam Harris, V1 Training

The cockpit is becoming continually more complex. Between advanced avionics and navigating within the NAS, there are ample opportunities to become distracted and compromising safety. Sam will discuss some real-world examples and the best practices to keep your crews focused and alert.

16:30   Closing Remarks and Session Adjourns

The Good, Bad & Ugly of Aircraft Documentation

GBAA was excited to offer their second Symposium of the year featuring Aircraft Documentation. 

The Symposium focused on learning about common mistakes made in aircraft records, insurance coverage for record loss and damage, record retention and back-up solutions, the impact of accurate and complete records on resale value and the legal aspects of record keeping. 

There was also a Round Table Discussion featuring record keeping best practices with Dan Lane of Epps Aviation, Eddie Wolfe of AMB Group, Len Beauchemin with AeroTechna Solutions and Elaine Karabatsos with Coca-Cola Enterprises.
