Commission for a New Georgia
Govenor Sonny Perdue established the Commission for a New Georgia to be a private-sector partner in his mission to upgrade the operating performance of the ninth largest state, so the "workings" of the government work better. The GBAA was represented by David Small, Chairman who worked on the Aviation Task force for over three months.
The Governors goal: to make Georgia the best-managed state in America.
The Commision assembled a board of top-level business executives from all over Georgia. They have enlisted pro-bono expertise from the most respected consulting firms in the nation and the service of hundreds of accomplished citizens with private-sector experience.
Short-term task forces were created for many of the states functions. Chaired by respected executives, task forces were served by accomplished citizen-expers who brought multiple perspectives to issues. The resear, findings and recommendations were reported to the Commision in 90 to 120 days and posted to the Commission's public website. The site address is: http://newgeorgia.org/aviation.html
To date, the task forces have generated more than 80 innovative, actionable recommendations. About 90 percent of these have been implemented or are moving through the pipeline. Many actions already noted statewide are 153 million in cost savings, increased efficiency through improved processes, created standards for financial management and brought state agencies together to work on common issues and related functions. The Georgia Business Aviation Association is proud to have served the state and honored to be asked to be a part of such a transformation in state government.
